June 22, 2014, at approximately 5:10 p.m., San Angelo Police Officers A. Nandin and M. Faz observed the driver of a 2000 tan Chevrolet S-10 Pickup in the 500 block of South Oaks Street commit a traffic violation.  A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the male driver and two male passengers. 

During contact with the driver, Officers Nandin and Faz detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.   Officer Nandin spoke with the driver and conducted a probable cause search of his person as well as the two passengers.  The driver did not have any illegal paraphernalia or substance on his person.   The back passenger, identified as Gerardo Enriquez (03/02/91), was searched and drug paraphernalia was located in his pants pocket and several small bags of methamphetamine were located in this sock.   The front passenger, identified as Ector Gamez (05/17/94), was searched and several bags of methamphetamine were located in his pants pockets along with a bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.   Gamez also gave a false name and date of birth during the investigation.  As officers searched the vehicle, a Glock .40 caliber pistol was located between the front passenger seat and the center console.  Further investigation linked the pistol to Gamez.

Gamez was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, Fail to Identify, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and two County Warrants for Organized Crime.  Enriquez was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.   Both were arrested and transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.   The 22 year old male driver was issued a warning for Failure to Signal Intent and released at the scene.

On June 20th, 2014 at approximately 2:29 AM, San Angelo Police Dispatch received a prowler call in the 2300 Block of Carlton Way.  Officers arrived at the residence and found one male in the back yard of the residence being held at gunpoint by the owner, and another male hiding behind the fence of the residence in the alley.

The Officers identified the male in the alley as Ryan Stark (05/02/1992), and the male in the back yard as Tyler Yarbro (08/21/1991).  The investigation on scene revealed that both Stark and Yarbro had been drinking and were intoxicated.   Stark was arrested for Public Intoxication. Yarbro was arrested for Public Intoxication and Criminal Trespass for entering the backyard of the residence without permission.  Both were arrested without incident and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

A 32-year-old San Angelo man is facing Felony drug charges after attempting to elude officers in North San Angelo Yesterday.

At approximately 9:20 a.m. on June 19, 2014, San Angelo Police Officers C. Barker and S. Curran attempted to conduct a traffic stop near E. 7th and N. Main Streets on a yellow, 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for expired registration. 

The driver of the Monte Carlo failed to stop after police activated their patrol unit's lights and sirens and attempted to elude police at low speeds for several minutes throughout the surrounding neighborhood before coming to a stop in the 900 block of N. Chadbourne where the driver was taken into custody and identified as Erik Quinonez (06-23-81).

Just as police were about to begin a search of Quinonez incident to his arrest, they observed a small baggy containing a substance that resembled narcotics fall from his clothing.  Police then observed Quinonez kick the item underneath a nearby patrol car.  Police retrieved the bag and conducted a field test on the contents, which showed a positive result for the presence of Methamphetamine.  When police searched Quinonez, they located a drug pipe in one of his pockets. 

During a probable cause search of Monte Carlo, police located additional bags of Methamphetamine that, along with the first bag, had a combined total weight of approximately 115.65 grams.  In addition to the narcotics, police located over $2,100 in United States currency.

Quinonez was charged with Felony 1 Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Fleeing Police Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While License Invalid, and Expired Motor Vehicle Registration.  He Quinonez transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.

A newly hired officer is one step closer to protecting and serving the citizens of San Angelo after graduating from a local police academy.

On Friday, June 20th, at 08:30 a.m., the San Angelo Police Department made the transition from trainee to Apprentice Police Officer official for Benjamin Pollitt.   Officer Pollitt recently graduated from the Basic Police Officer's Course offered by the Concho Valley Council of Governments in May, and was hired soon after to begin a career with San Angelo Police Department.

Officer Pollitt successfully completed an extensive six hundred sixty three (663) hour academy learning basic law enforcement skills.  He will now be assigned to a fifteen (15) week Police Training Program with a veteran officer.

The Police Training Program is designed to teach the APO's how best to use the skills acquired in the academy and in-service training.  

A 21-year-old Giddings man was injured during an early morning crash on the Beauregard Bridge.

Just after 5:00 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police responded to the report of a major traffic crash in the 600 block of W. Beauregard.  Upon arrival, police located a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck crashed through the guardrails on the north side of the bridge.  No other vehicles were involved in the crash. 

Police then located the male driver of the pickup, walking near his vehicle.  The man, identified as Jesus Perez of Giddings, Texas, was suffering from injuries he sustained in the crash.  Perez informed police he had been drinking alcohol and fell asleep behind the wheel prior to the crash.  Perez was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. 

The crash investigation showed Perez was headed eastbound over the bridge when he apparently fell asleep, crossed over the median and collided with the guardrails. 

The Crash and Incident reports indicate alcohol and failure to control speed as the suspected contributing factors of the crash.  Perez was still undergoing medical treatment at the conclusion of the field investigation.
