SAPD Press Release #061714(07)-Police Respond to Workplace Accident in Downtown San Angelo

At approximately 1:50 p.m. this afternoon, San Angelo Police were dispatched to 378 S. Chadbourne Street for the report of an unconscious subject.

 

Upon arrival, police were met by San Angelo Fire Department personnel who advised that a man had fallen from a telephone tower and was deceased.

 

Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard responded to the location and officially pronounced the death.

 

Police learned the victim, a contractor with MTSI out of Richardson, Texas, was approximately one hundred forty feet above ground doing repair work on the tower when he experienced issues with his safety equipment and fell to his death. 

 

Police are not releasing the victim's name until next of kin have been notified.  There is no further information at this time.

Press Release # 061314(06) Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest

On June 12, 2014, at approximately 10:10 p.m., San Angelo Police Officer E. Tabone observed a 2011 Chrysler 300 in the 200 block of East 17th Street commit a traffic violation.  A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the female driver and male passenger. 

 

During contact with the driver, Officer Tabone detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.   Officer Tabone asked the driver and the passenger if there was any marijuana in the vehicle.   The passenger admitted to possessing marijuana on his person and retrieved a bag of marijuana from his pants pocket showing Officer Tabone. 

 

The passenger, Jesse Alvarado (4-10-96), was searched after arrest and was found to be in possession of an additional bag of marijuana.  A search of the vehicle produced another bag of marijuana and paraphernalia in proximity to where Alvarez was sitting. Total weight for the marijuana found was 4.5 ounces.

 

Alvarado was charged with State Jail Felony Possession of Marijuana (4 oz to5 lbs), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and City Warrants.  He was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.    The 23 year old female driver was cited for Failure to Signal Intent, Failure to Display Drivers License, and Driving While License Suspended and released at the scene.

Press Release 060614(05)-Police Search for Fleeing Man in North San Angelo

A man who fled from police is still at large after an extensive search in North San Angelo this afternoon.

 

At approximately 2:32 p.m. today, San Angelo Police were dispatched to an unknown problem at a residence in the 1200 block of Koberlin Street.  While responding to the location, police received additional information that a party involved in the incident left the location with a child passenger in a silver-colored Chrysler Sebring. 

 

An officer responding to the call observed the vehicle in question and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near 19th and Wade.  During this attempt, a male passenger jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.  He was last seen running westbound in the North alley of 19th Street and Wade.  The subject was described as a light-complected Hispanic male who was armed with a long gun.    

 

Police established a large perimeter in the area and requested a K9 Team to the location to conduct a track; however, the suspect was not located.   Police have tentatively identified the suspect whom they believe may have run due to an outstanding warrant. 

 

The other occupants of the vehicle were detained and questioned by police.  Their identities are not being released at this time.   An eleven-month-old male child was located inside the vehicle, unharmed.  The child was later released to his mother at the scene.

 

This is an ongoing investigation and search.  More information will be released when it becomes available.

Press Release #060614(04)-Tenacious Cop Locates House Burglar

A 22-year-old San Angelo man is behind bars shortly after leaving a house he burglarized thanks to a tenacious cop.

 

Just after noon yesterday, June 5, 2014, San Angelo Police responded to a burglary in progress call at a residence located in the 100 block of E. 23 Street.  Officer J. Ruiz was the first to arrive and locate the victim who provided a good physical description of the suspect who fled the residence just moments prior to officer arrival.

 

Assisting Officer R. Stuart responded to the location and began searching the immediate area in an attempt to locate the suspect.  After several sweeps of the area, Officer Stuart made a final pass of the north alley of the 100 block of E. 23 Street.  During this pass, Officer Stuart located and detained a man who matched the description of the suspect.  The man was identified as Estevan Trujillo (01-28-92) of San Angelo.  Police located a knife and a screwdriver on Trujillo during his detainment.       

 

Detective L. Dye from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene along with the Crime Scene Investigations Section and during their investigation, physical evidence was recovered that connected Trujillo to the burglary.

 

The victim, who positively identified Trujillo as the suspect, told police that prior to the incident he was in his bedroom when he thought he saw someone walking down the hallway.  When he went to see whom it was, he found Trujillo, who was unknown to him, standing in the living room.   Trujillo fled the residence immediately after the confrontation.

 

Trujillo was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident and charged with Burglary of a Habitation.

Press Release #060514(03)-Update to Hit and Run Crash, Previous Release #060314(01)

San Angelo Police continue their search for a hit and run driver who dragged a woman over 500 feet before fleeing the scene of a crash on Knickerbocker Road Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

 

Initial reports indicated the color of the suspect's pickup truck was white or cream-colored, but police have since learned the vehicle may be tan-colored, possibly extended cab or 4-door, towing a rust-colored trailer with a rust-colored tractor.  The truck was last seen traveling southwest towards Lake Nasworthy after the incident.   

 

Police have recently received information that the suspect driver is a white male, possibly between the ages of 30-50, with curly, strawberry-blonde hair cut to the middle of his neck.  He was also described as wearing a dark blue-colored baseball style cap. 

 

The victim is currently under medical observation in Dallas, Texas.  Her injuries are severe. 

 

Police have followed up on several tips; however, none have panned out and the driver has not been identified.  It is unknown if the truck's driver is aware of the incident and police are urging the driver to contact the department immediately to give a statement.
