National Night Out 2019

On Tuesday, October 1st, neighborhoods throughout San Angelo are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities across the nation for the "36th Annual National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event.  National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the San Angelo Police Department, will involve over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world.  In all over 38.5 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night Out Against Crime". 

National Night Out is designed to; (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. 

On October 1st, residents in neighborhoods throughout San Angelo and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors, police, and other first responders.  

This year there will be seven National Night Out locations within the city limits of San Angelo and one location in Wall, Texas taking part in National Night Out festivities.  The locations and times for these events are listed below:

San Angelo Police Department Academy Graduation

Twelve (12) San Angelo Police Department Cadets will formally graduate from the police academy during a public ceremony slated for 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019, at the Stables at Fort Concho, 210 Henry O. Flipper Street.  

The new officers are Talon Adcox, Andres Castro, Jonathan Garcia, Glenn Halbert, Adrian Hardy, Sheldon Harrell, Lance Landers, Mike Morris, Carlos Ramirez, Manuel Reyes, Jeffrey Tarr, and Landon Terry. 

The Graduation Ceremony marks the successful completion of an extensive one thousand seventy-seven (1,077) hour academy learning basic law enforcement skills paired with a multi-week in-service training program.  During the ceremony, the Cadets will be sworn in as Apprentice Police Officers (APO’s).  The Department oath will be administered by Police Chief Frank Carter. 

Following Friday’s commencement ceremony, the Apprentice Police Officers will begin a sixteen (16) week Police Training Program, which is designed to teach the APO’s how best to use the skills acquired during the academy and in-service training. 


Man Sought in Connection to Weekend Pedestrian Hit and Run in Downtown San Angelo

Bentley Branson Green, 21 of San Angelo, has an active warrant for Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury, a Third Degree Felony. 

The warrant, issued by Justice of the Peace Fred Buck, was obtained Sunday, September 15, 2019, during a follow-up investigation of a hit and run pedestrian crash in downtown San Angelo Sunday morning. 

Green is accused of colliding with a 37-year-old San Angelo woman who was crossing South Chadbourne Street at East Twohig Avenue just before 12:20 a.m.  The woman was transported to a nearby hospital with incapacitating injuries, including broken bones that will require surgery.   

Green, who was driving a borrowed 2002 silver Mitsubishi Galant, reportedly fled the scene northbound on South Chadbourne at a high rate of speed following the collision.  Green’s whereabouts are unknown at this time.

San Angelo Police Apprehend Suspect Armed with Stolen Gun in Santa Rita

Yesterday afternoon, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area of South David and West Washington for the report of a man armed with a gun.  After obtaining the man’s description and direction of travel from witnesses, a Patrol Officer located the subject near a picnic table at Spanish Park.  The subject was holding a handgun. 

The Officer attempted to make contact with the subject by issuing commands; however, the subject disregarded the commands and a foot pursuit ensued.  

Additional police units converged on the area and the subject was located and taken into custody in the 600 block of South Abe Street.  The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Robert Clark.  The handgun was located nearby and seized. 

K-9 Team Officer J. Fincher and Police Service Dog Xander responded to conduct a search of the area in an attempt to locate additionally discarded property.  Shortly after the search began, officers located a shotgun that Clark had hidden in a nearby bush prior to his initial contact with police.  Clark was charged with Unlawful Carrying Weapon and Evading Arrest and he was transported to the Tom Green County Jail. 

During the follow-up investigation, officers heard a call for service regarding a burglary of a residence in the 1300 block of South David Street where two firearms were stolen.  Subsequent to the burglary investigation it was discovered the seized firearms were obtained during that burglary.  Clark was additionally charged with Burglary of Habitation.  His bond has been set at $51,000.00.


Suspect Named in Concho Pearl Ice House Double Stabbing

September 12, 2019— The San Angelo Police Department is seeking the whereabouts of 37-year-old Robert Espinosa Garcia Jr., AKA “Blunt”, in connection to an early morning double stabbing that left two San Angelo men seriously injured. 

Just after 12:00 a.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Concho Pearl Ice House located at 1605 S. Chadbourne Street for the report of a fight in progress with a knife involved.  

Upon arrival, officers located two male victims, ages 18 and 37, who were suffering from apparent stab wounds.  Both men were transported to a nearby hospital where they underwent emergency surgery for serious injuries.  They are reportedly in serious and critical condition respectively. 

Detectives with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded and learned the two victims, Concho Pearl Ice House employees, were stabbed just outside the bar as they attempted to break up a fight between Garcia and several other males.  Garcia reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle.
