A 22-year-old San Angelo man is behind bars shortly after leaving a house he burglarized thanks to a tenacious cop.
Just after noon yesterday, June 5, 2014, San Angelo Police responded to a burglary in progress call at a residence located in the 100 block of E. 23 Street. Officer J. Ruiz was the first to arrive and locate the victim who provided a good physical description of the suspect who fled the residence just moments prior to officer arrival.
Assisting Officer R. Stuart responded to the location and began searching the immediate area in an attempt to locate the suspect. After several sweeps of the area, Officer Stuart made a final pass of the north alley of the 100 block of E. 23 Street. During this pass, Officer Stuart located and detained a man who matched the description of the suspect. The man was identified as Estevan Trujillo (01-28-92) of San Angelo. Police located a knife and a screwdriver on Trujillo during his detainment.
Detective L. Dye from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene along with the Crime Scene Investigations Section and during their investigation, physical evidence was recovered that connected Trujillo to the burglary.
The victim, who positively identified Trujillo as the suspect, told police that prior to the incident he was in his bedroom when he thought he saw someone walking down the hallway. When he went to see whom it was, he found Trujillo, who was unknown to him, standing in the living room. Trujillo fled the residence immediately after the confrontation.
Trujillo was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident and charged with Burglary of a Habitation.

San Angelo Police continue their search for a hit and run driver who dragged a woman over 500 feet before fleeing the scene of a crash on Knickerbocker Road Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
Initial reports indicated the color of the suspect's pickup truck was white or cream-colored, but police have since learned the vehicle may be tan-colored, possibly extended cab or 4-door, towing a rust-colored trailer with a rust-colored tractor. The truck was last seen traveling southwest towards Lake Nasworthy after the incident.
Police have recently received information that the suspect driver is a white male, possibly between the ages of 30-50, with curly, strawberry-blonde hair cut to the middle of his neck. He was also described as wearing a dark blue-colored baseball style cap.
The victim is currently under medical observation in Dallas, Texas. Her injuries are severe.
Police have followed up on several tips; however, none have panned out and the driver has not been identified. It is unknown if the truck's driver is aware of the incident and police are urging the driver to contact the department immediately to give a statement.

A 47-year-old San Angelo man was arrested on drug charges after a Police K9 smelled contraband during a traffic stop.
Randy Allen Summerlin was arrested just before midnight last night on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 Less Than 1 Gram and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia during a traffic stop in the 800 block of E. 42 Street. During the stop, Officers requested K9 Team Officer J. Fisher and his Police Service Dog Thor to the scene to conduct an exterior air sniff of Summerlin's vehicle.
During the 'sniff?, Thor gave a positive alert on the passenger side door of the vehicle. When officers searched the vehicle, they located drug paraphernalia and a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for the presence of Methamphetamine.
Summerlin was transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

If you are a #Nixle subscriber, you were told of an out-of-town alarm company that came to San Angelo in February that was not in compliance with the TX DPS Security Bureau's regulations. This is the time of year when out of town alarm companies start knocking on doors and will continue through the summer months.
The Texas Department of Public Safety Security Bureau requires out of town companies to check in with the Texas municipality in which they plan to sell. They are not required to purchase a city sales permit. However, they are required to carry with them at all times their TX DPS Security License. This shows that DPS completed a background check and they have been approved by the DPS to sell or install alarm systems in your home.
ALWAYS ASK TO SEE THE SALESPERSON?S TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY SECURITY LICENSE! Under no circumstances should they not have it on their person. No excuses! They cannot sell or install alarm systems without it.
If you in any way doubt the credibility of the salesperson, feel threatened or feel intimidated by his or her actions, DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT THE SAN ANGELO POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 657-4498. After normal business hours, contact dispatch at 657-4315.
Best policy ? Let the salesperson leave the information (along with a blank contract) so you have a chance to look it over and to check out the company on the internet and with the Better Business Bureau.
Shop around and compare quotes for the installation along with the monthly monitoring fee, as you will be making this monthly payment for the length of the contract! DO NOT LET THEM RUSH YOU INTO MAKING A DECISION THAT YOU WILL BE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR. These people are there to sell -if they are pushing you to hurry send them be on their way!
If you are signing a contract with an out of town company, take into consideration who will be available if there is a problem with your alarm system or if it requires maintenance.
READ YOUR CONTRACT CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING. What you might understand from the salesperson and what you are signing may be different, especially concerning the longevity of the contract. If the salesperson mentions, ?free installation?, make sure it is stated in the contract so you are not surprised. In addition, free installation might mean that your monthly payment could be higher. Do your homework. Compare.

A woman is being treated at a local hospital for life-threatening injuries she sustained after an early morning hit and run crash.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., San Angelo police responded to Knickerbocker Road and Bentwood for the report of a crash.
Once on scene, officers discovered a severely injured female victim. The woman was transported to San Angelo Community Hospital where she is being treated for life-threatening injuries. Her current condition is unknown.
Traffic Investigators have determined that that the victim was the passenger in a maroon SUV that was headed southwest on Knickerbocker alongside a pickup truck that was towing a tractor. The driver of the truck changed lanes and caused a collision with the front left portion of the SUV. The driver of the truck came to a stop for the traffic signal at the intersection of Bentwood and Knickerbocker and during the stop; the victim exited the maroon SUV in an attempt to get the truck driver's attention. At some point, the victim's hand became lodged in a void located on the truck's bed, and when the light turned green, the truck driver proceeded to travel with the victim still attached. Police estimate the woman was dragged approximately 500 feet before she fell off and the truck's trailer ran over her.
It is unknown if the truck's driver was aware of the initial or secondary accident.
