The San Angelo Police Department is excited to announce a partnership with Nextdoor (nextdoor.com), the private social network for neighborhoods, to improve citywide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications. Nextdoor-SAPD will launch tomorrow, February 15.
Led by Chief Frank Carter, this integration with Nextdoor will enable the San Angelo Police Department to use Nextdoor to build stronger, safer communities with the help of San Angelo residents. The San Angelo Police Department and Nextdoor neighborhoods will be able to work together to increase safety and strengthen virtual neighborhood watch. “San Angelo is an innovative and resourceful city, and joining Nextdoor is another way to further our efforts in making San Angelo an even better place to live,” said Chief Carter. “With Nextdoor, we can help empower neighbors to keep their communities safe and connected and give them the ability to collaborate on virtual neighborhood watch efforts.”
Nextdoor has already proven to be an essential and well-adopted tool for San Angelo residents. More than 25 neighborhoods, representing 58% of the City of San Angelo, have started Nextdoor websites.
With Nextdoor, San Angelo residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets. The Police Department will be able to post information, such as important news, services, programs, free events, and emergency notifications to Nextdoor websites within the city.
“This partnership with Nextdoor gives neighbors an easy way to not only get to know each other, but develop stronger relationships with their local police department,” said Chief Carter. “We encourage San Angelo resident to join us on Nextdoor so together we can build stronger and safer neighborhoods.”
Nextdoor is free for residents and the Police Department. Each San Angelo neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website and the Police Department will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content. All members must verify that they live within the neighborhood before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.

With the implementation of Nextdoor, the Department will be phasing out its Facebook Blue Watch Program, which served to facilitate direct communication with citizens and their respective Sector Liaison Officers. The SLO Unit was dissolved in 2016 and Blue Watch is no longer sustainable. Blue Watch members will be notified of the change through a series of messages over the next several weeks.

At approximately 1:20 this morning, San Angelo Police conducted a traffic stop of a black 2014 Dodge Challenger for expired registration in the 100 block of W. Avenue G.
Police identified the driver as Noe Galindo Guerra, Jr., 26, and the passenger as Miguel A. Fernandez, 28, of San Angelo.
Through a records check, Guerra was confirmed to be driving without a valid driver’s license or insurance and he was placed under arrest.
Police observed a firearm on the floorboard where Fernandez had been seated and during a thorough search of the vehicle, Officers discovered a plastic bag that contained suspected narcotics underneath Fernandez’s seat. The bag’s contents field-tested positive for the presence of approximately 14 grams of methamphetamine.
The Department’s Criminal Investigations and Street Crimes Divisions were consulted during the investigation. At the conclusion, Guerra was charged with DWLI and Expired Registration. Fernandez was charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon and Felony 2 Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1.

Yesterday afternoon, Detectives with the San Angelo Police Department’s Street Crimes Division executed a Search and Arrest Warrant at a residence in the 2700 block of Jomar Street.
The warrant, issued by Justice of the Peace J.P. McGuire, named Victor Samaniego, 81, to be in possession of methamphetamine. Samaniego was located and arrested at the property.
During the search, investigators located a handgun, over $700 in U.S. Currency, a quantity of methamphetamine, and items consistent with the manufacture and delivery of methamphetamine.
At the conclusion of the operation, Samaniego was booked into the Tom Green County Jail for First Degree Felony Manufacture Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1.
SAPD K-9 Team Flores and Duke, Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division, and the Department’s Tactical Medical Team assisted the operation.

Reagan James Holland, 26, and Dusty Cabel Lamb, 46, of San Angelo were booked into the Tom Green County Jail early this morning. Both men were charged with Burglary of Habitation with Intend Other Felony.
The arrests came following interviews with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division after the pair allegedly robbed and assaulted a 44-year-old San Angelo man over the course of several hours at a residence in the 500 block of W. 17th Street yesterday.
Police located the pair at the residence around 11:45 p.m. after authorities were dispatched for the report of an assault. The victim, who was located asleep in a bedroom, was bleeding and suffering from wounds consistent with an assault. The man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and reportedly told Officers they saved his life.
During the investigation, Officers learned the victim was at the residence visiting a female friend who rents the property when Holland and Lamb arrived, entered the residence, and ordered both victims to hand over their personal property before Holland and Lamb repeatedly assaulted the male victim while displaying a firearm. The woman was not injured.
Police recovered the alleged handgun at the scene.
This is an ongoing investigation.

Just before 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, San Angelo Police responded to the Burger King restaurant located at 102 N. Abe Street for the report of a vehicle crash with the building.
Traffic units responded and located a white 1995 Crown Victoria crashed through the south side of the restaurant adjacent to the women’s restroom. The driver, an 82-year-old San Angelo man and his 72-year-old female passenger, advised police they were not injured; however the couple was evaluated at the scene by Fire Department personnel for precaution. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The driver advised he was attempting to park in the parking lot when his foot slipped off the brake pedal and onto the gas pedal.
Fire Department personnel also assessed the building for potential electrical fire activity after employees’ smelled smoke coming from the women’s restroom, which was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
City Code Inspectors were summoned to the scene and later determined the building was not structurally sound for dine-in patrons.
Burger King Officials advised the drive-through will remain open for customers but the dining area would be temporarily closed.
Preliminary damage to the building was estimated at $25,000.
