Press Release #100515(01)-Police Respond to Shots Fired Call at Comfort Suites

Yesterday, October 4, 2015, at 9:07 am, San Angelo Police responded to a call at the Comfort Suites, 4450 Houston Harte, about gunshots being fired in room 108.  When Police arrived, they observed bullet holes in the door of room 108.  It was unknown how many people were in the room or if anyone was injured.  The hotel was evacuated and a perimeter established around the room.

 

Officers attempted to make contact with anyone in the room by phone, but they were not successful.  The San Angelo Police SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were contacted and responded to the hotel.  While these teams were arriving on scene, Officers in the hallway near room 108 could hear a male subject talking inside.  Officers started to give the male subject commands to exit the room unarmed.  The male subject complied with the orders and was taken into custody without incident.  The male subject as identified as 47 year old Mateo Flores.  There was no one else in the room with Flores.

 

Flores has been charged with Deadly Conduct.  It was also learned, Flores is a convicted felon.  He was also charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  Other charges against Flores are possible pending further investigation.  Detective Jeremy Cannady is the lead investigator for this case.


Press Release #093015(26)-Police Arrest Three People after Vehicle Pursuit

At 10:52 pm last night, September 29, 2015, Officer C Barker attempted to make a traffic stop on a white 1997 Ford Taurus for failing to signal in the 1600 block of Beacon Street.  When Officer C Barker activated his emergency lights at the intersection of La Follette Street and Bell Street, the vehicle accelerated and actively evaded from the traffic stop.

 

The vehicle pursuit went west from this location until the driver lost control of the vehicle at 7th and Chadbourne and crashed.  Two males and one female exited the vehicle.  The driver, 30 year old Jonathan Escobedo, and the female passenger, 30 year old Christina Dumaran-Alvarez, were taken into custody.  Escobedo and Dumaran-Alvarez were transported to Shannon Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

 

The male passenger fled the scene on foot.  A perimeter was quickly established in the area.  K9 units responded to assist in locating the male subject.  K9 Sgt C Cimino deployed Police Service Dog Vader. PSD Vader was able to successfully track the male subject to the 900 block of MLK where he was taken into custody.  The male subject was identified as 43 year old Ruben Ortiz.

 

All three subjects were arrested and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.  Escobedo was charged with Evading in a Motor Vehicle.  Ortiz was charged with Evading on Foot and an outstanding County Warrant for Theft.  Dumaran-Alvarez was arrested for a Parole Violation Warrant.

 

During the investigation a handgun was located on the ground near the suspect vehicle.  The gun was seized as part of the investigation.

 

Detective Matt Hawthorne is the lead detective for this incident.  Further charges may be forth coming pending further investigation.  There is no other information available for release at this time.

Press Release #092815(25)-Police Credit Nixle, Community for Locating Missing San Angelo Children

Two San Angelo Children who were reported missing Friday evening were located thanks to Nixle and an alert driver.

 

San Angelo Police issued a Nixle Alert for the missing girls, ages 5 and 10, at about 5:30 p.m. September 25 after they were reported missing from the 2000 block of N. Parkway.   About 15 minutes later, a 32-year-old San Angelo woman who had just learned of the alert, noticed the girls walking in the area of N. Bishop and Guadalupe Streets.   The citizen then called police and stayed with the girls until Officers responded.  The girls were unharmed and later reunited with family members.

 

Before the girls were located, police conducted a door-to-door search of the surrounding area and nearby playground.  Several neighbors and other citizens who received the Nixle alert are also credited in assisting with the search efforts.

 

San Angelo Police have located several missing persons over the past few years with the assistance of citizens who subscribe to Nixle.

Press Release #092815(24)-Man Shoots Himself after Standoff with Police

Bradley Shane Duncan, a 45 year old white male from Cleburne, TX, shot himself in the abdominal area after a several hour standoff with San Angelo Police. 

 

Early this morning at 12:44 am, San Angelo Police were sent to the Sedona Ranch Apartments, 2901 Sunset Drive, for a suicidal subject call.  Kimberly Duncan, a 28 year old white female, reported her estranged husband, Bradley Duncan, had kicked in the door to her apartment armed with a gun.  Kimberly Duncan reported her husband had threatened to shoot her and then himself in a previous argument during the weekend.  She was able to get out of the apartment safely along with her two children, a 9 year old male and an 8 year old female, and call the police.

 

Officers were able to make contact with Bradley Duncan by phone.  He made several statements stating he was either going to shoot himself or make the Police shoot him.  The San Angelo Police SWAT team, Crisis Negotiation Team, and Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene.  After several hours of speaking with Duncan by phone, at approximately 5:50 am, Officers heard a gunshot.  A few minutes later, Duncan came out of the apartment with a self inflicted gunshot wound to his abdominal area.  He was taken into custody by members of the SWAT team without any further incident.  It was learned the gunshot had been from a shotgun.

 

San Angelo Fire Department personnel who had been standing by during the incident began treatment of Duncan's wound and transported him to Shannon Hospital.  Duncan has been admitted into the hospital for his injury.  His current condition is not known at this time.

 

Detective Kelly Lajoie is the lead detective for this investigation.  At this time an arrest warrant has been issued for Duncan for Burglary with Intent to Commit another Felony.  Other charges may be filed at a later time pending further investigation.

Press Release #092415(23)-San Angelo Police Honor Guard Receives Electronic Bugle from Retiree Assoc

The San Angelo Police Department's Honor Guard has a new instrument thanks to the generosity of the San Angelo Retiree Officer Association.

 

Members of the Association presented San Angelo Police Sergeant Daniel Williams and Police Chief Tim Vasquez with an electronic bugle during the group's monthly breakfast gathering.  The bugle will be used to play Taps and other songs during various Honor Guard duties when a bugler is unavailable. 

 

Members donated the money for the bugle, which cost approximately $600.00

 

To date, the Association has upwards of 135 members from various civilian and military law enforcement backgrounds.  The monthly breakfast is held on the first Wednesday of each month at Gil's Restaurant in San Angelo.  The Association is open to all retired law enforcement.
