San Angelo Police Apprehended Car Thief, Recover Stolen Vehicle

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Action Pawn located at 2105 S. Bryant Boulevard for the report of an unknown problem where a distressed woman was screaming outside the building.

Upon arrival, Officers learned that an acquaintance of the woman, a man named Elvis, had stolen her 2010 Toyota Camry from the parking lot.  Additional Officers searched the area for the vehicle; however, it was not located.

About one hour later, a San Angelo Police Officer on patrol in the 1100 block of Burgess Street observed a vehicle and driver that matched the description of the stolen Toyota and reported suspect.  The vehicle’s driver, who noticed the Officer looking at him, began driving at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a stop sign, presumably in an attempt to elude the Officer.  The Officer caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop; however, the driver failed to stop and a short vehicle pursuit ensued.  The pursuit ended in the 600 block of Parson’s Street after the suspect abandoned the moving vehicle, which crashed into a fence.

Responding Officers, who quickly established a perimeter of the surrounding area, were directed to a suspicious man who was at a nearby apartment complex.  The man, who matched the suspect’s description, was detained and identified as Elvis C. Ramirez, 22, of San Angelo.

Subsequent to the field Investigation, the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division charged Ramirez with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest Detention with Vehicle.  Ramirez is being held at the Tom Green County Jail on $15,000.00 bond.
