At approximately 9:15 a.m., Officers received possible GPS coordinates for the truck, which had been tracked through OnStar.
Officers converged on the area and eventually located the truck traveling north in the 200 block of S. Tyler Street. Upon seeing the responding Officers, the truck’s driver exited and attempted to escape a pursuing Officer by jumping a fence leading into the backyard of a nearby residence. A male passenger, identified as Jacob Alvarez, 17, sustained injury while resisting his arrest and transport. Officers requested San Angelo Fire Department Medics to the scene and Alvarez was transported to a nearby hospital for assessment and subsequently to the Tom Green County Jail after being medically cleared.
During a search of the vehicle and bags belonging to Counts and Alvarez, Officers located and seized a quantity of drug paraphernalia, marijuana, suspected stolen identification from multiple victims, and personal property belonging to the truck’s registered owner.
Counts was charged with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle, Forgery Financial Instrument, Evading Arrest Detention, Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 3, and Class B Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana. Alvarez was charged with Resist Arrest Search or Transport and Harassment of Public Servant.
