Press Release# 082214(12) Brief Foot Pursuit Leads to Drug Arrest

A broadcast call regarding a suspicious person leads to the arrest of the suspect and seizure of illegal narcotics and suspected stolen property yesterday afternoon.

August 21, 2014, at approximately 4:37 p.m., San Angelo Public Safety Communications (Dispatch) received a call regarding a suspicious person in the 3700 block of North Chadbourne St.  A neighbor called and  stated the male subject was possibly trying to steal property from a nearby residence.  While officers were responding to the area, Dispatch sent out a radio message stating the suspect had left the area.

SAPD Officer, L. Cortinas, arrived first and located the suspect in the 3300 block of North Chadbourne St. and activated his emergency lights for safety and to notify the suspect to stop.  The suspect turned to see Officer Cortinas in his vehicle with his emergency lights activated and ran away from him on foot.  The suspect continued to flee through several alley ways and backyards until he was taken into custody by Detective T. Griffith and Officer B. Stewart in the 3100 block of Orchard St.

After the suspect was taken into custody, he was identified as Macario Perales (DOB 02/01/1987) of San Angelo.  Once officers placed Perales under arrest, a search of his person revealed a syringe and a small bag containing a white substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.  Perales was also in possession of a wallet and a bag of tools that may have been taken in a burglary.   The wallet and tools were seized and further investigation is needed to determine if a burglary took place.  One of the property owners wished to file a criminal trespass charge against Perales as he jumped a locked fence to enter the property while attempting to elude police.  Perales was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Evading Arrest/ Detention, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, and Criminal Trespass.

No further information will be release at this time pending further investigation.
