On Wednesday evening, December 12, 2018, members of the Department’s Street Crimes Division located the suspect of a narcotics trafficking investigation inside a white Ford F350 in the 2000 block of N. Bryant Boulevard.
Street Crimes Investigators attempted to detain the suspect, 52-year-old Jose Torres, however, Torres fled the detention and struck and damaged a San Angelo Police Department vehicle during his escape. Torres, who fled the scene with his truck lights off, eventually eluded the pursuing Officers.
During the search for Torres, San Angelo Public Safety Communications received a call from a subject who said Torres was at a nearby Walmart — claiming that his truck had been stolen. Torres was located and interviewed and his claim was debunked.
Torres was arrested for Aggravated Assault Against Public Servant and Evading Arrest Detention but his Ford F350 was not located.
Thursday morning, San Angelo Public Safety Communications received a report from someone who located a suspicious truck that was parked on private property in the 1400 block of Farr Street. Street Crimes Investigators responded and determined the vehicle was the truck that Torres had been driving when he struck the Police vehicle and fled the Officers. Investigators also located approximately one (1) pound of suspected methamphetamine.
Torres is being held at the Tom Green County Jail in lieu of $160,000 Bond and he is facing additional charges pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation.
