Police Arrest Aggravated Assault Suspect

A 24-year-old San Angelo man was arrested in connection with an aggravated assault that occurred yesterday afternoon near downtown San Angelo. 

At approximately 4:11 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Shell Fuel Station located at 107 South Abe Street for the report of a woman who entered the store and was bleeding from a neck wound.  Prior to officer arrival, dispatch received information that the victim, age 20, was transported to Shannon Medical Center by private vehicle where she later underwent emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries.  

Through follow up investigation Officers learned the suspect, identified as Chance Robert Taylor, used a box cutter to slash the victim’s neck and then fled the scene westbound on foot towards the intersection of W. Beauregard and Sherwood Way. 

Officers converged on the area and Taylor was located in the Neighborhood Walmart Parking lot, 1852 Sherwood Way, and taken into custody at gunpoint.  Police located a utility knife commonly referred to as a box cutter in Taylor’s pocket. 

Taylor was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where he is being held on $20,000.00 bond. 

This is an ongoing investigation and no other information is available for release.
