Fleeing Suspect Gets the Point after Morning Chase in north San Angelo

At approximately 9:00 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Resort at Riverside Apartments, 3306 N. Bryant Boulevard, for the report of a possible burglary in progress where a male and female were observed entering a second-story apartment through a window.

Officers arrived and as they approached the apartment, a man who matched the suspect’s description jumped from the window and took off running.  The female was taken into custody without incident after she exited the apartment through the front door.

Officers pursued the fleeing suspect on foot and additional responding units quickly established a perimeter of the surrounding area.  The suspect fled through neighboring streets and into a nearby field where Officers temporarily lost sight of him.  He was eventually spotted running into the backyard of a residence near the 3500 block of Lake Drive where he was confronted by Officers on the perimeter.  The suspect attempted to backtrack but quickly abandoned his flight and surrendered without further incident.  The suspect was identified as Willie C. Montgomery, 38, of San Angelo.

Officers requested San Angelo Fire Department Medics to the scene to evaluate Montgomery, who was suffering from a copious amount of cactus needle injuries and apparent exhaustion.  Montgomery was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and arrested following his release from medical care.

Following the field investigation, Investigators charged Montgomery with Criminal Trespass Habitation, Evading Arrest Detention, and seven outstanding warrants.  Montgomery’s female accomplice, 23-year-old Haley Winn, was charged with Criminal Trespass Habitation, Third Degree Felony Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 (methamphetamine), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
