Citizens Aid San Angelo Police During Felony Shoplifting Suspect Apprehension

May 9, 2019 — A 53-year-old San Angelo woman was arrested on several charges after two separate shoplifting incidents at local Walmart Supercenters.

This morning,  San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Walmart on Sherwood Way for the report of an older female that stole over $500.00 worth of meat from the store while operating a motorized shopping cart.

Upon arrival, Officers learned that Walmart Asset Protection Staff recovered the stolen items and that the suspect, who was identified to the Officers through video surveillance footage, had fled the scene in a light brown passenger car.

During the field investigation, Officers were notified that the same female suspect was now at the Walmart on South Bryant Boulevard attempting to commit another theft.

The first responding Officer spotted the female suspect, who was operating another motorized shopping cart, attempting to leave the store with merchandise.

The Officer made several attempts to apprehend the woman, who was later identified as Bessie Limuel; however, Limuel refused to comply with the Officer’s orders and a struggle ensued.  During the struggle, Limuel bit the Officer’s leg.

Two Good Samaritans who witnessed the struggle intervened and aided the Officer’s apprehension efforts.  The Officer, a 30-year veteran of the Department, sustained minor injuries from the assault.

Limuel was charged with Assault on Public Servant, Resisting Arrest and two counts of Felony Theft of Property (Enhanced/2 or More Previous Convictions).  Additional charges may be pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation.

The Department would like to thank the two Good Samaritans for assisting the Officer.
