On 10/04/2022 at approximately 17:58 hours, SAPD Officers were dispatched to Walmart located at 5501 Sherwood Way for a shoplifter.
Upon officers arrival they were able to locate the suspect in the parking lot. The suspect was detained and an investigation was conducted.
At the conclusion of the investigation the suspect, identified as Jayson Zapata, was arrested and transported to Tom Green County Detention Center. Jayson Zapata is currently employed as a San Angelo Police Officer and has been with the Department since 2007.
Zapata will be on administrative leave from the Department while the SAPD Internal Affairs Division conducts an investigation. Zapata was off duty when the incident occurred.
