Meritorious Awards

On an annual basis, the SAPD encourages their employees to nominate their fellow officers for meritorious awards. These nominations are first submitted to the nominated officer’s chain of command for review. Upon being reviewed by the officer’s chain of command, the nominations are then submitted to the “Meritorious Review Board” who then determine if Officer’s actions meet the criteria for a meritorious award. The “Meritorious Review Board” then makes their recommendation to the Chief of Police who would then ultimately determines if the Officer receives a meritorious award.

The SAPD would like to acknowledge the heroism and extraordinary acts of bravery that were displayed by these officers for the 2022 year.

Officer Pedro Rodriguez and Officer Jacob Anderson were awarded lifesaving awards for their heroic actions in evacuating two apartments during a nighttime structure fire at a large San Angelo Apartment Complex.

Officer Phillip Jensen was awarded the lifesaving award for his actions during a citizen in distress call.  Officer Jensen arrived on scene and started CPR until the arrival of the Fire Department thus saving the citizens life.

Officer Steven Martinez and Officer Zach Villarreal were each awarded a lifesaving award for their actions when they were dispatched to a citizen in distress.  Their communication skills and quick action prevented a citizen from harming themselves during a mental health crisis.

The SAPD is proud to recognize these Officers as their actions are a direct reflection of what the SAPD strives for when it comes to meeting the needs of our community and its citizens.
