Suspect Arrested after Vehicle Pursuit through Several Counties

A 36-year-old San Angelo man was arrested following a vehicle pursuit that took area law enforcement through several adjoining counties Tuesday evening.

At approximately 4:36 p.m. on May 8, 2018, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the 7700 block of Sentinel Circle for the report of suspicious activity regarding a male in a black truck that was driving around the Lakeshore Village neighborhood, opening mailboxes and tipping over garbage cans.

Officers located the subject’s vehicle, a 2014 black Chevrolet Silverado pickup, in the 1800 block of Lakeshore Drive and attempted contact; however, the subject drove off and a pursuit ensued.

Officers deployed Stop-Sticks near the area of Grand Canal and U.S. Highway 277 and successfully disabled two of the truck’s tires but the truck continued fleeing and the pursuit continued into Concho County where local Sheriff Deputies assumed primary duty of the pursuit.

A second round of Stop-Sticks successfully disabled a third tire just west of Eden, Texas; however the truck continued to flee on U.S. Highway 87 south into McCulloch County where McCulloch County Sheriff Deputies took the lead.  The pursuit ended on County Road 138 in McCulloch County after the truck’s driver lost control and crashed into a bar-ditch.  The suspect, identified as Justin A. Lee, was swiftly taken into custody.  During the apprehension, Lee’s disabled truck ignited a grass fire which subsequently caused the truck to catch fire.  The truck was destroyed.  One SAPD Patrol Unit sustained tire damage and became disabled in Eden, Texas.  No Officers or Deputies were injured during the pursuit.

Following magistrate proceedings at the McCulloch County Jail, Lee was transported to Shannon Medical Center for evaluation.  After his release, Lee was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Evading Arrest Detention with Vehicle and a warrant out of Mills County for Possession of Controlled Substance PG1.

Later in the shift, San Angelo Police investigated several Misdemeanor Criminal Mischief and Destruction of Mail calls as well as Felony Disruption of Utilities that Lee committed in the Lakeshore Village area prior to the pursuit.  The Department’s Criminal Investigations Division was notified and additional charges are pending the outcome of those ongoing investigations.

The Department would like to thank our brothers and sisters of the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, Concho County Sheriff’s Office, McCulloch County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their outstanding support and assistance during the pursuit and apprehension.
