At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, San Angelo Police and Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the 3400 block of Arden Road for the report of a major motor vehicle crash with entrapment involving two vehicles.
First responders arrived and found two involved vehicles, a tan 1992 Dodge Diesel Pickup truck and a tan 1998 Honda Accord. Due to the severity of the collision, the driver of the Honda, 28-year-old Adrian Hernandez, had to be extricated. Hernandez was transported to Shannon Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery. Hernandez later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 12:38 a.m. The Honda's passenger, 27-year-old Aaron Nitsch of San Angelo, was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries and later released.
The driver of the Dodge pickup, a 15-year-old male juvenile and his 16-year-old male juvenile passenger were transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of various injuries and later released. The names of the juveniles are not being released at this time.
Investigators with the Department's Traffic Section and Criminal Investigations Division were called to assist with the investigation. They determined the Honda was in the process of entering onto Arden Road from Oxford Street when the Dodge, traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, collided with the Honda's driver- side door.
Traffic Investigators returned to the crash scene this morning to conduct a follow-up investigation. The Area of Arden Road between Mockingbird Lane and Robin Hood Trail was closed to oncoming traffic for several hours.
This is an ongoing investigation and charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
