A 32-year-old San Angelo man is facing Felony drug charges after attempting to elude officers in North San Angelo Yesterday.
At approximately 9:20 a.m. on June 19, 2014, San Angelo Police Officers C. Barker and S. Curran attempted to conduct a traffic stop near E. 7th and N. Main Streets on a yellow, 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for expired registration.
The driver of the Monte Carlo failed to stop after police activated their patrol unit's lights and sirens and attempted to elude police at low speeds for several minutes throughout the surrounding neighborhood before coming to a stop in the 900 block of N. Chadbourne where the driver was taken into custody and identified as Erik Quinonez (06-23-81).
Just as police were about to begin a search of Quinonez incident to his arrest, they observed a small baggy containing a substance that resembled narcotics fall from his clothing. Police then observed Quinonez kick the item underneath a nearby patrol car. Police retrieved the bag and conducted a field test on the contents, which showed a positive result for the presence of Methamphetamine. When police searched Quinonez, they located a drug pipe in one of his pockets.
During a probable cause search of Monte Carlo, police located additional bags of Methamphetamine that, along with the first bag, had a combined total weight of approximately 115.65 grams. In addition to the narcotics, police located over $2,100 in United States currency.
Quinonez was charged with Felony 1 Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Fleeing Police Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While License Invalid, and Expired Motor Vehicle Registration. He Quinonez transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.
