Press Release #052115(12)-Police Searching for Hit & Run Driver

San Angelo Police are searching for a man involved in a hit and run crash early this morning in north San Angelo.

Just before 12:30 a.m. this morning, Sector 1 Patrol Officer C. Gonzales was patrolling the 900 block of W. 29th Street when he drove past a man standing a few feet away from a vehicle that was off the roadway and on top of a fence.

Believing the man may have been the driver and involved in a collision, Officer Gonzales turned around, activated the vehicle's lights and sirens and attempted to make contact with the subject but the subject took off running.  Officer Gonzales pursued the subject but lost sight of him in the overgrown brush along the riverbank.  San Angelo Police K-9 Units responded to assist with the search but were not able to locate the subject.  The subject was described as being a white male in his mid-to-late twenties, average build, approximately 5?11?- 6?01? with light colored hair.

The abandoned red 2007 Mazda sedan was towed from the scene.  Police attempts to contact the vehicle's registered owner, Jeffrey Houseworth of San Angelo, have been unsuccessful.

The fence sustained several hundred dollars in damages.

This is an ongoing investigation and no other information is available at this time.
