Two San Angelo residents were arrested yesterday morning after witnesses called police to report a vehicle burglary in progress in the 400 block of N. Van Buren.
Upon arrival, Officer R. Spearman met with the victim and a witness who said the suspects, who had run off prior to his arrival, had just stolen a purse from their car.
Officer Spearman issued a broadcast message of the suspect's descriptions and direction of travel and immediately began canvassing the area. Detectives with the Special Operations Section (SOS), who were nearby and heard the message, responded and located the pair walking in the area of Jefferson and W. Harris.
When the Detectives attempted to make contact with the pair, the male subject ran away. The woman was taken into custody by one of the Detectives and identified as Destiney Calaway (DOB 03-01-93).
Other Detectives pursued the male suspect to the 1300 block of W. Beauregard where he was tackled in the parking lot of the Catfish Corner Restaurant. During the apprehension, the suspect, who was later identified as Jacob Flowers (DOB 05-04-89), threw a wallet on top of the restaurant's roof. Officers retrieved the wallet and confirmed it belonged to the victim of the burglary.
Flowers agreed to lead police to the location of the discarded purse but during the search, Flowers asked for an ambulance because he felt ill. San Angelo Fire Department Medics responded and treated Flowers at the scene for dehydration before clearing him for transport to the Tom Green County Jail.
Police located the stolen purse and returned it and the wallet to the owner.
Flowers was charged with Burglary of a Vehicle, Evading Arrest Detention, and three outstanding Arrest Warrants. Calaway was charged with Burglary of a Vehicle and three outstanding Arrest Warrants.
