Police Arrest Driver Responsible for Leaving Three Seriously Injured in Friday Night Hit and Run on

Cody Salazar, 28 of San Angelo, has been arrested in connection with Friday night’s single-vehicle hit and run crash on Paint Rock Road.

After extensive follow-up investigation by members of the Department’s Traffic Section and Criminal Investigations Division, Salazar was developed as the possible suspect who abandoned his three seriously injured passengers after he crashed a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 into a tree in the 200 block of Paint Rock Road just before midnight on Friday, December 7, 2018.

Yesterday evening, Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Salazar for the charge of Accident Causing Serious Bodily Injury.  Salazar was located at a residence in the 100 block of North Monroe and was taken into custody without incident.

The preliminary crash investigation revealed Salazar was reportedly involved in a verbal altercation with parties in another vehicle at the Stripes Convenience store located at 1542 S. Bell Street just before the crash occurred and that during the altercation, Salazar was attempting to flee the parking lot in haste when he collided with a gas pump.  Following that collision, Salazar fled westbound from the Stripes at a high rate of speed when the truck left the roadway and collided with the tree.  The force of the collision caused the truck’s passenger side to peel away from the truck’s body.

Salazar’s passengers, a 30-year-old female who Police located inside the truck and two others, a 33-year-old female and a 36-year-old male who were ejected from the truck, were transported to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.  They are reportedly in stable condition.

Salazar was booked into the Tom Green County Jail for Accident Causing Serious Bodily Injury, his Bond set at $50,000.
