March 31, 2018 — Just before 4:30 p.m., San Angelo Police and Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the intersection of 29th and N. Bryant Boulevard for the report of a major motor vehicle crash with entrapment between a pickup truck and an SUV.
Upon arrival, first responders located the driver and sole occupant of a white 1998 Chevrolet S10, deceased. The victim, a 60-year-old San Angelo resident, required extrication from the vehicle.
Justice of the Peace J.P. McGuire responded to the crash scene and formally pronounced the woman deceased. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
Investigators with the Department’s Traffic Section and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to the scene. A preliminary investigation showed the victim was driving the pickup southbound towards the 2900 block of N. Bryant Blvd. at a high rate of speed when she collided with a black 2012 Dodge Journey that was stopped at the red light. The force of the collision pushed both vehicles into the intersection. The SUV’s occupants, a 51-year-old female driver and 54-year-old male passenger, were not injured.
Traffic was diverted for several hours during the investigation, which is ongoing. More information will be released when it becomes available.
