Assistant San Angelo Police Chief Retires after 36 years of Public Service

The San Angelo Police Department will be honoring Assistant Chief Robert Martinez in a retirement ceremony slated for 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017, at the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive.  The ceremony is open to the public. 

Martinez, who was born and raised in San Angelo Texas, began his career with the San Angelo Police department in October 1981.  During his career, Martinez served six years in the Patrol Division as a patrolman and supervisor, sixteen years with the Criminal Investigations Division as an investigator and supervisor, and fourteen years in the Administration Division where he rounded out his career as the Assistant Chief in charge of Investigations overseeing the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Intelligence Division, and Street Crimes Division.     

Martinez holds a Master Peace Officers license, has over 2,777 Texas Commission on Law Enforcement training hours, and graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy, class 174, in Quantico, Virginia.  He promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1989 and was appointed to Assistant Chief in 2004. 

During his tenure, Martinez participated in the Goodfellow Air Force Base Honorary Commander Program and he has received countless letters of commendation from the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, the Concho Valley Department of Community Supervision and Corrections, 1st Community Federal Credit Union, as well as from various citizens who benefitted from his lengthy service and dedication to the community.
