Press Release #021115(07)-San Angelo Police Receive Special Valentine Delivery from Local Second Gra

On Friday, February 13, 2015, second graders from the San Angelo Independent School District will deliver hand-made Valentine's Day Cards to the Police Department, 401 E. Beauregard.

 

The project is the byproduct of a local citizens group that is organizing to support local law enforcement.  Members of the yet-to-be-named group recently reached out to SAISD Superintendent, Doctor Carol Anne Bonds, with the project idea.  Students from four local elementary campuses chosen to create the cards will make the special delivery to the Chief's Conference Room at 1:00 p.m.

Press Release #020915(06)-Intoxication Assault

On Friday, February 6, 2015, at approximately 6:15 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of North Emerson and East Harris.

 

It was learned from witnesses that the driver of one of the involved vehicles, a black 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, had fled the scene.  The other vehicle involved was a red 2007 Chrysler 300, operated by Sharon Ortiz, DOB 01-15-64.  Ortiz sustained incapacitating injury during the crash and was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment by San Angelo Fire Department Medics.  There is no further information on her condition at this time.

 

Evidence at the scene of the crash and witnesses helped identify Gabel Barrera, DOB 12-19-74, as the driver of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.  It was learned by Officers investigating the crash that Barrera was arrested for Public Intoxication at 302 N Main after he fled the scene of the crash and prior to it being known he was the driver from the hit-and-run. 

 

Police learned, through investigation, Ortiz had been driving west on East Harris and Barrera was driving south on North Emerson.  Barrera disregarded the stop sign at the intersection and collided with Ortiz who was already in the intersection.  It was also learned that Barrera had collided with two other vehicles that were parked and unoccupied in the 100 block of N Emerson prior to the collision with Ortiz.

 

Barrera was issued citations for Disregard Stop Sign, Expired Drivers License, and No Insurance.  Barrera was also charged with Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle causing Serious Bodily Injury.

020615(05)-Police Charge Murder Suspect

On February 6, 2015, Jason Scott Little, DOB 11/09/86, was charged with Murder for the fatal shooting of Bertha Vasquez at Eva's Place on February 1, 2015.  Little has been in jail since February 2, 2015 on unrelated charges.

 

?Our officers have worked non-stop to solve this senseless murder.  I am very proud of all those involved.  Our prayers go out to the family of the victim.  We will see justice for Bertha.? ? Chief Tim Vasquez

 

There is no further information available at this time as the investigation is still ongoing.  More information will be released next week in a subsequent press release.

Press Release #020615(04)-Marijuana Shipped Through UPS, Suspect Arrested

On January 8, 2015, Officers from the Pueblo Police Department, in Colorado, were sent to a UPS facility in reference to a suspicious package. Officers arrived and spoke to the manager who had received the package. The package was marked suspicious by the UPS Store where it was originally sent from. Upon opening the package, the manager located several double vacuum sealed packages of suspected marijuana and marijuana products. The package was being sent out of Pueblo, Colorado from Johnny Wolfe, DOB 10-4-91, a San Angelo resident, to himself at his residence in San Angelo, Texas.

 

On January 13, 2015, Narcotics Detectives from the Pueblo Police Department followed up on the initial case by weighing and testing a total of 8 packages with a total of 9 pounds of high grade marijuana, which has an estimated value of $58,000. There was also approximately $5,000 worth of marijuana products including edibles, cough syrups, transdermal patches and THC ?wax? that were legally purchased from two separate marijuana dispensaries in Pueblo West, Colorado.

 

Through a thorough investigation, Wolfe was identified as the suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On February 3, 2015, Pueblo Police Detectives contacted the San Angelo Police Department Narcotics Division and asked for their assistance in locating Wolfe.

 

On February 4, 2015, the members of the SAPD Narcotics Division arrested Johnny Wolfe at his residence in the 2700 block of SAC Ave. Wolfe was booked into Tom Green County Jail on a warrant for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute with a $100,000 cash only bond.

Press Release #020315(03)-Aggravated Assault

On Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at approximately 9:21 a.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Cunningham for a subject with a weapon.

 

Upon arrival, police spoke with two victims, a 52 year old female and a 21 year old female, who stated they had been assaulted by Armando Barrera Jr, DOB 04-04-91.  During the course of the assault Barrera exhibited an assault rifle and threatened to kill the victims.  No shots were fired, and Barrera left the area.  The victims received minor injuries.

 

Barrera was located by Police in an apartment building in the 800 block of Knickerbocker.  Barrera did not have the assault rifle with him when he was located.  Officers learned through the investigation that Barrera had been seen putting the assault rifle in the trunk of a car.  The rifle was located seized.

 

Detective James Hernandez responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.  Barrera was arrested for two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Controlled Substance less than one gram.
