Arrest Made in Convenience Store Armed Robbery

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Stripes Convenience Store located at 1606 La Follette Street for the report of a robbery.

Units arrived and learned a tall black male wearing a dark blue polo style shirt, jeans, and distinctive athletic shoes, entered the store with a plastic bag tied around his mouth.  The suspect, armed with a handgun, approached the clerk and demanded money.  After receiving an undisclosed amount of currency, the suspect fled the store on foot.  No one was injured during the incident, which was captured on surveillance video.

Further into the shift, San Angelo Police Sergeant A. Callum was conducting directive patrol for other area convenience stores when he observed a man who matched the suspect’s physical and clothing description near Junius and Howard.

The man was detained and although he initially provided a false identity, he was determined to be 44-year-old William Hosea English, who was wanted on an outstanding Motion to Revoke Parole Warrant.  English was arrested for the warrant and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

During a search of the area where English was taken into custody, Officers located evidence connecting English to the robbery. The items were seized and tagged into evidence.

Through follow up investigation, Detectives with the Department’s Criminal Investigation s Division developed probable cause to charge English with First Degree Felony Aggravated Robbery.

This is an ongoing investigation and no other information is available for release at this time.
