October 17, 2018 — An investigation in the cause of a morning traffic crash near Shannon Hospital revealed the driver most likely suffered a heart attack prior to the collision.
Just after 10:30 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area of South Magdalen and East Harris for the report of a major motor vehicle crash with injuries.
The driver, a 47-year–old San Angelo man, was located inside his 2012 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck unresponsive and without a pulse. San Angelo Fire Department personnel performed chest compressions on the man during his transport to Shannon Medical Center where hospital staff reportedly revived him. His current condition is unknown.
Traffic Investigators have since learned the man complained to family members of being in medical distress this morning and he apparently suffered a heart attack while en route to the hospital. His truck left the roadway and collided with a utility pole’s guy-wire before striking a retention wall and launching into the Shannon Medical Center parking lot where it collided with an unoccupied 2014 Nissan Sentra. The force of the collision caused the Nissan to collide with an unoccupied 2017 Toyota Highlander, which then caused the Highlander to collide with an unoccupied 2017 Ford Edge.
