Street Crimes Division Directed Traffic Stop Leads to Meth Seizure

Detectives with the San Angelo Police Department’s Street Crimes Division (SCD) seized approximately fourteen (14) ounces of suspected methamphetamine during a traffic stop yesterday morning.

Throughout August 2017, SCD Detectives have been conducting a drug trafficking investigation on Chance C. Hudspeth, 40, of San Angelo.  Recently, Detectives developed probable cause to believe Hudspeth would be in possession of methamphetamine in a tan-colored 2000 Buick passenger car.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., Hudspeth was observed operating the vehicle in the 2600 block of North US Highway 67 and was subsequently stopped for a traffic violation.  During the traffic contact, Hudspeth was placed under arrest after an Officer observed digital scales inside the vehicle.  A female passenger, Brandee M. Murphy, 27, was detained during the investigation.

SAPD Police Service Dog Duke and his handler arrived to assist with the stop and during an open-air “sniff” around the vehicle, Duke alerted Officers to the presence of illegal narcotics.  Police located and seized the suspected methamphetamine, which had been concealed inside a false compartment.

Hudspeth was arrested for First Degree Felony Manufacture Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1.  Murphy was arrested for State Jail Felony Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 and Possession/Delivery Drug Paraphernalia.  The pair was transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

The Department’s Patrol Division assisted with yesterday’s field operation.
