September 12, 2017 Traffic Enforcement Operation

Today, the San Angelo Police Department’s Traffic Section conducted a School Zone Traffic Enforcement Operation utilizing LIDAR. 

Police issued a total of fifty (50) citations during the operation, which ran from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. at the Central Freshman campus, Trinity Lutheran, McGill Elementary, Crockett Elementary, San Jacinto Elementary, TLC Elementary, Bowie Elementary, Holiman Elementary, Glenmore Elementary, and Fannin Elementary.  Breakdown for citations: 

Driving While License Invalid: 2

Other/Misc. Violations: 12

No Insurance: 2

Speeding: 34

Warnings: 6

Following the School Zone Operation, additional LIDAR Traffic Enforcement was conducted targeting eastbound traffic in the 2300 block of West Houston Harte until 10:30 a.m. 

Officers issued a total of fifty-four (54) citations during the operation.  Breakdown for citations: 

Fail to Change Lanes/Slow While Passing Emergency Vehicle: 3

Speeding: 38 (Highest speed 95 MPH)

Other/Misc. Violations: 12

No Insurance: 1

Warnings: 4

As a reminder, the Texas Transportation Code requires drivers nearing stopped emergency vehicles with lights activated to change lanes or slowdown by 20 MPH below the speed limit.  Failing to take these actions endangers personnel who provide critical and life-saving services.
