San Angelo Police Department Bids Farewell to Beloved Police Service Dog, Seeks Donations to

On Friday, October 11, 2019 members of the San Angelo Police Department bid farewell to Thor, a beloved Police Service Dog who medically retired after serving six years with the Department’s K9 Unit.

Thor, a Belgian Malinois, joined the Department in 2013.  Thor’s dogged approach to police work led to nearly four hundred thirty-eight (438) arrests that led to the discovery and seizure of roughly one thousand eight hundred (1,800) grams of narcotics.

Thor will be enjoying his retirement in the company of the Department’s K9 Unit Supervisor and former handler, Sergeant Brian Gesch.  And although Thor will no longer be tracking criminals and drugs, he will continue to seek out belly rubs, ear scratches, and playtime with his favorite Kong.

The startup cost to replace Thor with a new Police service dog — which includes importing the dog, training, equipment, and food — costs approximately $16,000.  The Department will soon be working towards fundraising efforts to cover these costs.  If you would like to help, please send a check or money order to:

San Angelo Police Department c/o K9 Unit Box 5020 San Angelo Texas 76902

(All donations will be earmarked for the new PSD, related equipment and K9 training.)
