In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation, which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week.
In 2014, the Nation lost one hundred twenty-seven peace officers in line of duty deaths, eleven of those officers were from Texas.
Each year, the San Angelo Police Department hosts public and private events in honor of the peace officers who died in the line of duty, as well as to thank those who currently serve and protect our citizens. This year's events are slated for May 11 through the 15th.
