On Monday, September 28, 2009, at about 1:15 a.m., San Angelo patrol officers responded to Cactus Laundry Mat, 2014 Junius Street, to investigate the report of a crime in progress.
Apprentice Police Officer (APO) Bruce Stewart arrived on-scene and met with a witness who said that there were three women in the business and that one of the women had been opening the coin operated machines with a key then taking the change out and putting it in her pocket. The witness felt the other two women were acting as lookouts.
APO Stewart did find three women in the business and identified them as Katherina A. Rodriguez (11-06-63), Melissa Rodriguez (11-06-67), and Ashley Rodriguez (01-07-92). All three women are from San Angelo. Keys to open the laundry machines were located in Melissa Rodriguez's basket and a large number of quarters were located in Katherina Rodriguez's pocket. The subsequent investigation confirmed what the witness had seen after which Detective Chris Soto was consulted. The three women were arrested and charged with Burglary of a Coin Operated Machine and were booked into the Tom Green County Jail.
APO Stewart was assisted on-scene by Lt. Rhonda Mida, Officer Harold Caston, and APO Chris Chappa.
