Next week the San Angelo Police Department will swear in three police officers.
On Monday, April 21, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., Police Chief Tim Vasquez will swear in three new police officers. Current Apprentice Police Officers (APOs) Matthew Vaughn, Russell Weatherby, and Terry Edge will be sworn in at a ceremony at the Police Station, 401 E. Beauregard, in the Chief's Conference Room, at 1:00 p.m.
APOs Vaughn and Weatherby have successfully completed a 21-week basic peace officer academy and passed the state licensing exam. APO Edge is the first certified officer to be hired by the Department under the current Meet & Confer agreement reached earlier this year. APO Edge formerly worked for the Crosbyton Police Department. All three APOs are currently completing the Department's 8-week in-service training-including the first-ever San Angelo Challenge-and upon successful completion will move on to a 12-week field training program.
The San Angelo Police Department has just begun a basic peace officer academy and has fifteen APOs attending. The agency still has five openings and has targeted Saturday, May 31, as the next written civil service exam test date. For more information contact Recruiting Officer Richard Bart at 657-4378.
