Officers Find Key to Unsolved Case after Morning Chase

August 3, 2018 — Around 9:25 this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area of E. 12th and Akin for the report of suspicious subjects checking vehicles in the area.

Shortly after, a responding Officer located the subjects in the 700 block of E. 16th Street and initiated contact with the duo; however, the male subject ran and abandoned a backpack and the female subject left in another direction.

Responding Officers converged on the area, quickly established a perimeter and searched the neighborhood.  Officers eventually located the woman hiding behind vegetation in the north alley of the 600 block of E. 15th street.  She was identified as Jamie L. Hocker, 30, of San Angelo.  Hocker was arrested for an outstanding County Warrant but the male suspect was never located.

Although the Officers did not initially locate the male, later identified as 31-year-old wanted felon Emmanuel Sanchez, they discovered that Sanchez’s discarded backpack held the key to an unsolved case.

In addition to locating narcotics and marijuana inside the backpack, Officers discovered a car key that belonged to a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier this week from the 1100 block of E. 24th ½ Street.  Police recovered the stolen 2014 Hyundai Elantra the same day it was reported stolen but the keys were never located — until today.

Just after 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, San Angelo Police caught a break on Sanchez’s possible whereabouts when a citizen called dispatch to report a sighting of the man police were searching for earlier in the day.

As Officers responded to the area of the sighting, they spotted Sanchez at 21st and Blum.  Sanchez immediately fled and another pursuit ensued until he was taken into custody in the 500 block of E. 20th.

Sanchez was arrested for his Parole Warrant and Evading Arrest Detention with Previous Conviction.  Charges for State Jail Felony Possession of Controlled Substance PG1, State Jail Felony Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle, and Class B Possession of Marijuana are forthcoming.
