Death Investigation
On 11/13/22 around 1:52am, Officers were dispatched to 4611 S. Jackson (Koronazz) to assist another agency with an arrest. It was learned that Criminal Investigator Steven Carnes (53yoa) was working off duty security at this location and was attempting to affect an arrest.
While assisting Carnes, SAPD Officers observed that Carnes appeared to be having a medical emergency. SAPD Officers immediately requested medical assistance and the SAFD arrived on scene to assist.
Carnes was transported to Shannon Medical Center via the SAFD where he was later pronounced deceased.
SAPD’s Criminal Investigations Division were requested on scene and a death investigation was conducted. After the investigation was conducted, it was determined that Carnes’ death was not criminal in nature.
Carnes served nearly 30 years in Law Enforcement and was currently commissioned as a Criminal Investigator with the District Attorney’s Office.
The SAPD offers its deepest condolences to both the Carnes’ Family and the District Attorney’s office.
No arrests were made during the course of this incident, but charges may be filed at a later point in time for the offenses made prior to Carnes’ medical emergency.
