At approximately 1100 am this morning, San Angelo Police Department officers were dispatched to the 800 block of N. Chadbourne Street in reference to a disturbance. Upon arriving, they learned that an Aggravated Robbery occurred in which a suspect used a broken, jagged bottle to threaten an employee at a convenience store and steal property.
Officers obtained surveillance video of the suspect, later identified as 56 year-old Julio Enriquez, and began searching the area for him. A short time later, officers located Enriquez in the 1200 block of N. Farr Street. As an officer confronted him, Enriquez retrieved the broken bottle and put it to his own neck. Multiple officers arrived and attempted to negotiate with Enriquez. Eventually, an officer attempted to utilize a Taser to take Enriquez into custody without serious injury. The Taser was ineffective. An SAPD supervisor then utilized a kinetic energy “bean bag” shotgun round, knocking Enriquez to the ground and disarming him in the process. Enriquez was taken into custody without further incident.
Enriquez was ultimately arrested for Aggravated Robbery.
