May 11, 2020 — Just after 2:30 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area of West Harris and South Abe Street for the report of a gray 2005 Toyota passenger car who was fleeing the scene of a crash.
While en route, officers received information that the suspect had pulled into the Shell Gas Station on South Abe Street after the vehicle became disabled. Once in the parking lot, the suspect driver reportedly exited the car and fled on foot.
A responding officer located the suspect driver and attempted to stop him but the suspect driver disregarded commands and a foot pursuit ensued. The suspect driver was eventually taken into custody in a parking lot near the 400 block of West Beauregard.
During the follow-up investigation, police learned the suspect driver, identified as 17-year-old Adan Gonzalez, had rear-ended a white Dodge Ram pickup that had been stopped at the light on South Abe and West Harris. When the driver of the Dodge, a 22-year-old San Angelo man, made contact with Gonzalez, Gonzalez reportedly told the man not to call the police and then fled the area. The victim, who was not injured during the crash, followed Gonzalez to the Shell Station.
Gonzalez was initially charged with Evading Arrest Detention but was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana after police found marijuana inside the vehicle.
Gonzalez also received citations for Failure to Control Speed, No Driver’s License, and Failure to Stop and Leave Information.
