Support the K-9 Unit

We currently have four K-9 teams working within the patrol division of the department.  We have had as many as six teams in the past.  In order to serve as an effective unit, we need four certified teams. The average dog will serve as a Police Service Dog for approximately five years, as they are between two and four years old when they hit the streets.  This would allow for the purchase of one new dog per year, preventing us from having to purchase several dogs at once by staggering the ages of our dogs.

Average Cost of Imported Police Service Dog $13,000
Average Cost of Dog/Handler Training (30 days) $3,200
Average Cost per handler for annual schools  $1,000
Estimated Cost of 10x10 Dog Kennel  $650
Estimated Cost of Dog House (K9 Kondo) $200
Estimated Cost of Dog Food (per dog/per yr)  $400
Estimated Cost of Vet bills (per dog/per yr) $350
Estimated Cost of K9 Equipment (sleeves/leads)   $200
Estimated Cost of Handler Equipment  (per dog) $500
TOTAL START-UP COST PER DOG TEAM  $18,050

Operating a Police Service Dog program is very expensive, and stretches our department's budget.  If you would like to help, please send a check or money order to:
