Some Residents without Utilities after Hit & Run Driver Collides with Utility Poles in North San Ang

Some San Angelo residents experienced an early morning interruption of their electricity, cable, phone, and internet services following a hit and run collision with utility poles in north San Angelo.

Just before 6:30 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to E. 14th and N. Oakes Streets for the report of a hit and run crash.  While enroute, Officers received a description of the driver, who reportedly left the scene after the collision.

Upon arrival, Officers located a disabled, unoccupied white Dodge Ram pickup truck that collided with two utility poles.  The force of the collision caused the poles to snap and come to rest on top of the vehicle and in the roadway.  Fire Department personnel also responded to address a fire that ignited on one of the poles.

Through follow up investigation, Officers A. Covey and A. Alvarez learned the suspect may be at a residence in the 1700 block of N. Magdalen.  Officers responded to the residence and eventually located the suspect inside.  He was identified as Jesus Ruiz-Lopez, 19, of San Angelo.

Ruiz was arrested for Duty on Striking Fixture/HWY Landscape>=$200 and transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.

Representatives from Suddenlink and AEP responded to address the damaged lines and crews are working to restore services to the affected customers.
