A 30-year-old San Angelo man has been arrested in connection to last night’s stabbing outside the Stripes convenience store located at 802 East 19th Street.
Just after 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, San Angelo Police were dispatched to Stripes store #225 for the report of a stabbing.
Arriving officers located a Hispanic male suffering from an apparent stab wound. Officers deployed a Department issued C-A-T Tourniquet to control the victim’s bleeding until San Angelo Fire Department Medics arrived.
The victim, a 33–year-old San Angelo resident, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The assault, which took place just outside the store’s front doors, was captured on surveillance video. The suspect, identified as Manuel Penner, fled the store’s parking lot prior to police arrival.
Penner was later located at a residence in the 4400 block of Travis Street and taken into custody without incident. The investigation revealed Penner and the victim are acquaintances with longstanding unresolved issues and that last night’s incident at Stripes resulted from a chance encounter.
Penner was booked into the Tom Green County Jail charged with Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon. Bond was set at $35K.
