Press Release #100114(01)-San Angelo Police Partner with Community Members to Host National Night Ou

San Angelo? National Night Out 2014 will be celebrated on October 7 in most Texas cities.  Most of the Country celebrated in August, which was a bit too warm for us West Texans!

National Night Out is a great opportunity for communities nationwide to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention, and neighborhood camaraderie.  While the one night is certainly not an answer to crime, drugs and violence, National Night Out represents the kind of spirit, energy and determination to help make neighborhoods a safer place year round.  NNO is about networking and connecting with like-minded people who all want the same thing, to ensure his or her community is a safe place to live and play.  There is no better way to do this than to get to know some of the people who live around you.

Sir Robert Peel, considered to be the father of modern policing once said, ?Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent upon every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.?

In other words, Peel was saying we are all responsible for the policing of our community.  So how can you become a police-community partner?  One way is by getting to know your neighbors and watching over their property.   By them doing the same for you, and by keeping our possessions locked up, we are all doing a form of police work and keeping our neighborhoods a little more crime free.

The San Angelo Police Department invites you to partner with us by attending one of the many events scheduled throughout the city.  Join us and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
