Press Release #081015(07)-Police Continue Investigation into Weekend Drowning

The San Angelo Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division is continuing its investigation into the death of a toddler who drowned in Lake Nasworthy Friday evening.

Nearby Lake Police were alerted to the drowning at Mary E. Lee Beach just before 9:30 p.m. by beachgoers.  A Lake Officer immediately entered the water and attempted to search for the toddler manually while others prepared the Division's watercraft for deployment.  Fire Department personnel also aided with the search.

After about 50 minutes, Police located and recovered the toddler with the assistance of Sonar and special recovery equipment but the child showed no signs of life.  He was identified as two-year-old Treswawn Marquveis Collins of San Angelo.

Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard responded and pronounced Collins dead by drowning.  Collins was sent to Lubbock for autopsy and results are pending.  The drowning appeared to be accidental.

Witnesses at the beach told Officers Collins slipped off a floatation device and into the water after his parents, who were accompanying him on the lake, began to experience difficulty swimming.  They were reported to be several yards away from the shoreline and were assisted to shore by nearby kayakers.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
