Press Release #043015(16)-2015 San Angelo Police Department Police Memorial Week Events

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation, which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week. 

 

In 2014, the Nation lost one hundred twenty-seven peace officers in line of duty deaths, eleven of those officers were from Texas. 

 

Each year, the San Angelo Police Department hosts public and private events in honor of the peace officers who died in the line of duty, as well as to thank those who currently serve and protect our citizens.  This year's events are slated for May 11 through the 15th.

 

 

The following events are open to the public:

 

  • Flag Raising Ceremony: Monday, May 11, 10:00 a.m., Police Department Headquarters, 401 E. Beauregard

 

  • 10th Annual Remember the Fallen Golf Tournament: Monday, May 11, Bentwood Country Club, 2111 Club House Ln., 11:30 a.m. registration, 1:00 p.m. Shotgun start.  Proceeds benefit the Texas Police Chiefs Association's Death Benefit Fund

 

  • Law Enforcement Memorial Run & Dinner: Wednesday, May 13, 6:00 p.m., Police Department Headquarters, 401 E. Beauregard. (Registration table opens at 4:00 p.m.) Donations accepted.  Proceeds benefit the Jaime Padron Memorial Scholarship

 

  • Ecumenical Service: Friday, May 15, 11:00 a.m., Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 3 S. Randolph St.  This service will honor Texas? fallen peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2014
