Press Release #033016(10)-Police Investigate Stabbing on W. Avenue N

San Angelo Police are continuing their investigation of a stabbing incident that occurred around 1:22 yesterday afternoon near Angelo State University.
Police were called to a residence in the 2500 block of W. Avenue N for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, ASU Police were at a residence where a man was located on top of the roof. Officers made contact with the man who told them he had been stabbed in the arm and the suspect may be inside the residence.
San Angelo Fire Department personnel arrived and Officers utilized their ladder to assist the man off the roof. Medics treated the man, a 64-year-old resident of San Angelo, for an apparent non-life threatening stab wound before transporting him to Shannon Medical Center.
Soon after, the alleged suspect, a 60-year-old resident of San Angelo, exited the front door. The man was taken into custody at gunpoint without further incident and detained.
Officers made exigent entry inside the residence to conduct a search for possible victims and suspects but none were located.
Members of the Department's Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Investigations Section were called to the scene to process the area for evidence and interview the involved parties. Subsequent to their field investigation, it was learned the two men were engaged in a verbal argument over money just before the physical altercation took place. The stabbing victim told Investigators the suspect stabbed him with a knife, and the alleged suspect told Investigators he stabbed the victim in self-defense after the other man attacked him with a hammer. Investigators and Medics found injuries to both men that supported the claims.
At this time, no charges have been filed. This incident is still under investigation. Detective M. Hawthorne is the lead Investigator for this case.
