Press Release #021115(08)-Police Arrest Knife Wielding Man Who Threatened Local Hospital Staff

A forty-four year old San Angelo man has been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant after he threatened Shannon Medical Center staff with a knife yesterday afternoon.

On February 10, 2015, at approximately 3:45 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to Shannon Medical Center's Emergency Room for the report of a knife wielding man who was threatening to harm hospital staff.

Initial responding Officer A. Nandin located the man inside one of the treatment rooms, brandishing two knives.  Officer Nandin spoke to the man and attempted to bring the situation to a quick, safe resolve while waiting for additional officers to arrive.  During the contact, the man became increasingly agitated and continued his threats towards hospital staff and responding officers.

After the negotiation proved unsuccessful, officers deployed a Taser at the man, which temporarily disabled him and allowed officers to safely take him into custody.  During a search incident to his arrest, police located a homemade weapon commonly referred to as a ?zip gun? that had an unfired bullet inside.

Medical personnel treated the man, identified as Frank Dominguez (DOB 09-23-70) for minor injuries he sustained during the Taser deployment.  After medical staff cleared Dominguez from further treatment, he was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault Against Public Servant.

During the investigation, police learned that prior to their arrival, Dominguez arrived at Shannon seeking medical treatment when he pulled a knife from his pocket and attempted to assault nursing staff.  The staff members fled the room to safety and no one was injured.
