Police Department, Fire Marshal’s Office Investigate Bomb Threat at Cactus Hotel

December 13, 2018 — The San Angelo Police Department, in conjunction with the San Angelo Fire Marshal’s Office, are investigating an email message received by individuals at the Cactus Hotel.

The email message references the detonation of an explosive device(s) unless the email recipient(s) transfer a sum of money to the sender.

In an abundance of caution, Public Safety Officials are conducting security sweeps and evacuating the building.

Thus far, this message does not appear to be authentic or a legitimate threat and the email(s) resemble a robo-email message that has been circulating throughout the country in an attempt to scam businesses out of money.  Even though this email threat appears to be a hoax, our agencies take every threat seriously and we will continue to investigate.

Agency Officials are asking members of the public to avoid the area surrounding the Cactus Hotel for the public’s safety as well as to ensure access to emergency vehicles and personnel.

As always, San Angelo Public Safety Officials want to remind our citizens to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety.
