Man Who Fell From Cactus Hotel Flown to Lubbock for Specialized Care

A 26-year-old San Angelo man who sustained life-threatening injuries after he fell from the Cactus Hotel Saturday night remains hospitalized.

Dylan Kohutek-Bottalico, 26, who was initially treated at Shannon Medical Center, was later flown to a Lubbock area hospital for specialized care.

Kohutek-Bottalico was the subject of a welfare check call regarding a man that was reportedly climbing the northeast corner of the Cactus Hotel located at 36 E. Twohig Avenue around 8:00 p.m. on September 8, 2018.

Upon arrival, Officers located Kohutek-Bottalico holding onto the brick façade approximately five stories up from the roof of the hotel’s ballroom.  As Officers requested Fire Department Personnel to respond with a ladder truck, Kohutek-Bottalico fell and landed on the roof of the ballroom.

In a coordinated response, Officers and Fire Department Medics gained access to the roof and rendered aid to Kohutek-Bottalico.  Fire Department Personnel navigated power lines and successfully extricated Kohutek-Bottalico from the rooftop with the aid of ladder truck.  Oakes Street was temporarily closed to vehicle traffic during the incident.

Personal property belonging to Kohutek-Bottalico was later located at the parking structure adjacent to the hotel, which is where Kohutek-Bottalico is believed to have gained access to one of the hotel’s rooftops.

No other persons were located on the roof and no foul play is suspected.  This is an active investigation and no further information is available for release at this time.
