Joint Law Enforcement Involved Shooting Investigation in Northwest San Angelo

At approximately 7:49 p.m., a Deputy with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle just north of the city limits.

The vehicle’s driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued through Northwest San Angelo until the suspect vehicle collided with a DPS vehicle that was assisting with the pursuit.  The trooper was not injured.

Following the collision at West Shiloh and North Monroe, the driver abandoned the vehicle in a nearby alley, armed with a shotgun.  Soon after, San Angelo Public Safety Communications received a call from a nearby resident who stated they observed a man running with a shotgun and a second call from another resident who stated a man was in their backyard.

A Sheriff’s Deputy and several SAPD Officers responded to the backyard located in the 700 block of North Madison Street and subsequently located the suspect driver brandishing a shotgun.

Gunfire was exchanged and the suspect was fatally wounded.  One San Angelo Police Department K-9 Officer sustained non-life threatening injuries from the suspect's shotgun pellets.

The investigation has been turned over to the Department of Public Safety Texas Ranger Division and no further information will be released from the San Angelo Police Department or Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office.
