On 5/15/22 around 1:16am, an SAPD Sergeant (while performing DWI enforcement duties) observed a white in color Honda passenger car traveling in the wrong direction at a high rate of speed in the 2000blk of West Houston Harte Expressway.
The SAPD Sergeant activated his emergency lights/sirens and an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle was made. The driver of the suspect vehicle disregarded the Emergency lights/sirens and proceeded to continue to drive Eastbound in the Westbound lanes on Houston Harte Expressway.
An SAPD K9 unit was able to get in front of the suspect vehicle near the 4100blk of US Highway 67 which ultimately resulted in the suspect vehicle turning around on the highway and stopping a short distance later. Officers were then able to take the suspect (Angelo Garcia 32yoa) into custody without further incident.
Garcia was charged with the listed offenses:
- Evading arrest/detention with a Motor Vehicle
- Driving While Intoxicated BAC>=.15
- Possession of Marijuana <2oz
- “Two” County Warrants
- “Two” City Warrants
- “One” Out of County Warrant
The SAPD is thankful that no officers/civilians were injured during the course of this incident and we believe that this is a direct result of the officer’s communication/actions while trying to stop Garcia.
