On 11/3/21 around 0200hrs, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600blk of Macann in reference to a Domestic Disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers located a male subject (later identified as Michael Rodriguez 24 yoa) on the front porch of the residence. An Officer was able to locate Rodriguez and attempted to apprehend him at the rear of the residence. During the course of the apprehension, the officer sustained an injury that resulted in Rodriguez being able to get away.
Rodriguez was then able to enter into a parked SAPD patrol unit and drive it away from the scene in an attempt to evade officers. A slow speed pursuit ensued and the pursuit ultimately ended at a residence in the 1500blk of Woodruff after Rodriguez crashed the patrol unit into the side of a residence. Officers were then able to quickly take Rodriguez into custody. Rodriguez was transported to Shannon Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries for treatment. The SAPD Criminal Investigation Division and the Traffic Division arrived at the termination point to assist with the investigation.
Rodriguez was medically cleared at Shannon and was charged with a Violation of a bond/protective order, Evading arrest/detention with Serious Bodily Injury, Evading arrest/detention in a Motor Vehicle, and various County Warrants. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the incident is investigated further.
