On 07/01/2022 just before 07:30 am, SAPD and SAFD were dispatched to 1926 North Bryant in reference to a structure fire. Upon arrival, Officers observed flames and a large amount of smoke exiting from the building.
After the fire was suppressed by the SAFD, officials were able to locate a male subject inside the building. Officers made contact with the male and learned that the male was armed with an edged weapon and had suicidal tendencies.
In a coordinated effort, members of the SAPD’s Crisis Negotiation Team communicated with the distraught male which ultimately resulted in a peaceful resolution.
Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Mental Health Unit responded to the scene and subsequently transported the 35-year-old male to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The SAFD’s Fire Marshall’s Office and SAPD’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the cause of the fire.
No officers or civilians were injured during the course of this incident.
