1986 Murder of Dovie Dykes

The San Angelo Police Department’s Cold Case Section is seeking information regarding the 1986 sexual assault and murder of Dovie DYKES.  

At approximately 9:27 am, July 11, 1986 SAPD Officers were dispatched to 1026 Culberson regarding a deceased person.  A family member reported to the Police Department that they had discovered the deceased body of Ms. DYKES inside the Culberson Street residence.  The family member also reported that Ms. DYKES had recently expressed a concern for her safety and that she felt a man in the neighborhood was going to “get her or rape her”.  Mrs. DYKES was 83 years old and had lived alone for many years. 

A subsequent criminal investigation by Detectives revealed that Ms. DYKES had been sexually assaulted by one or more suspects.  It is also believed that several personal items were removed from the residence by Ms. DYKES’ assailant(s).  Autopsy results concluded that Ms. Dykes died as a result of cardiac arrhythmia as she was sexually assaulted.  Law enforcement is seeking information regarding who may have visited or seen Ms. DYKES during the afternoon or evening hours of July 11, 1986.  Law enforcement is also seeking information from anyone who may have seen a person or persons walking around Ms. DYKES’ residence on July 11, 1986.
